Blogger Registration or Anonymous?

One of our commenters has indicated "Sorry, but i don't understand the difference between a "blogger identity" and and an "anonymous blogger." " This is an interesting question raised in response to one of our posts.

In a reply to one commenter, on another subject, we had made a distinction between someone who posts as one who has registered with blogger and someone who simply posts as "Anonymous." That distinction, admittedly, was not clear. What we meant was that if you have registered with Blogger and have created a Blogger profile for yourself, your screen name will appear in blue (or some other color) at the top of your post and will contain a link to your Blogger.com profile. If you have not registered with Blogger, no link will be contained in your screen name.

We had indicated that, as many blogs have done, we are thinking about requiring a Blogger.com registration in order to be able to post a comment on this blog. We have not, as yet, decided what, if anything, to do in that regard.

Why didn't you post this commentator's blog? Did he violate one of your rules?

No he did not. As we were quickly going through the number of comments for that day, which as you may know are in a list, we inadvertently and unintentionally deleted his comment.

As Blogger.com is currently set up, there is no way to undelete a comment once a comment is rejected. At least, we know of no way. Because we really did want to publish the comment, we decided to give it more prominance by blogging about it as it was an interesting post. Thanks for asking, and keep reading.

It does appear that you reject a significant number of blogs which do not appear to violate your rules. A more suspicious reader might assume an ulterior motive.

We don't think we've intentionally rejected hardly any of your posts. As to others, you wouldn't know what was rejected, unless you sent them under a code name like, "anonymous," would you?

You have rejected a significant number of my blogs (about three) without answering my comments. I have spoken to others in the annex who have voiced the same feeling. Now the others may have used anonymous (I don't know) but they have said that their responses where reasonable and complied with your demands.
I still don't see the difference with anonymous and your use of a fictitious name. You know the saying that "a rose by any name.... "

Many bloggers use screen names. That is not the same as using no name or using "anonymous."

Those who have represented to you the reasonableness of their responses were not sitting in our editor's chair. Even crazy people (and we're not saying the ones you are talking with are) think what they say is reasonable. Our editor thought otherwise.

We have long said, and you know, that our editor is the sole judge of what gets published here and whether a contributor has met our publication standards, just like the Key West Citizen's editors are the sole judge of what gets published there. If someone does not like this, he is free to start his own blog or newspaper where he will have exclusive editorial control. There is no absolute right to be published here or anywhere, and that is what some of the anonymous folks out there don't get. We invite them to start their own blogs. However, we and we alone will determine what gets published here.

The bottom line is that we have no interest in minimizing the number of comments we publish. In fact, our interest is just the opposite. We hope we'll be able to publish as many comments as possible that meet our editorial standards. That is the way we grow our readership. However, we simply are not going to publish every uninteresting, off topic, redundant, repeated, spam-like, off color, inappropriate, threatening or otherwise offensive comment that is left as a post. That is why we have comment moderation, and that is why we may in the future prohibit anonymous comments.

Thanks for your opinion.

Thanks for sticking by your guns. I think your presentation of views is reasonable. Most people have at least some idea of where TAMPOA management stands on issues affecting the Truman Annex homeowners (we would have a better idea if TAMPOA management were more open or at least have an updated website with useful, complete, and consistent information). TAMPOA management has gone on record to specifically decline presenting all sides of issues that affect homeowners and our community. Since they have chosen that approach, your blog is the best thing we have to stay informed about such issues. And although TAMPOA management has seemingly been run by clowns (it would be more funny if it did not cost homeowners so much money) your blog is more lively and entertaining.

Which is just the long version of saying "if we don't like it, we won't post it."

Not exactly, it's more complicated than that. And you don't seem to get it. Try reading again our posts about how we decide on publication.
