Still No Update To the TAMPOA Website

We have previously blogged here about the TAMPOA website. After reading Cayo Dave's blog post about the TAMPOA rules, we checked the TAMPOA website again. It still languishes unattended.

Interestingly, there is a message from President Tukey in the newsletter purporting to summarize and commenting on the depositions taken in the Southard street state court litigation. Guess we'll have to blog about that one day.

We find it appalling that the leadership of TAMPOA can spend oodles of money on two lawsuits. That same leadership can stop using recycled paper (like it used to do) and instead pay for expensive slick magazine paper to print its latest (March 15) newsletter. However, the leadership of TAMPOA won't spare the time or dime one to add it's latest newsletter to its website. Why do you suppose that is? Is it another example of misplaced priorities?

Whatever the reason, we find it hard to believe it is an accident, i.e., the TAMPOA office just hasn't gotten around to it. We hope Annex residents will begin to ask questions about what is going on with the website. It's time for some answers.

Dear Conchette,
How can you criticize some bloggers from using the anonymous button when you refuse to identify yourself and use a nom de plume? That is very hypocritical don't you think? But in retrospect that's just another example of your standard operating procedure.

Mark, we don't agree. First, these anonymous bloggers don't (or can't) get a blogger identity. We don't mind keeping your real name off the internet. Many bloggers do, given the number of people out there who could (or would like to) harm you. From this blog alone, the number of threats we get is astonishing.

Second, we were not talking about all anonymous bloggers, just the trolls. If you are a blogger, that word has a special meaning when used in the contexxt of the internet. Those trolls try to post here, and are the same ones who replied to Cayo Dave's posting about Truman Annex.

I too have received many threats from the same trolls - each growing more urgent and personal.
I'm not sure what upsets the trolls more - my opinions or that I don't attach my name to it.
Either way I am a huge supporter of free speech and continue to praise Conchette for her excellent posts, brave journalism, and quality character.

I hate to tell you this, but the term is "trollers", not "trolls". To "troll" a board or discussion group is to do like a fisherman does: drag a line through a school of fish and try to get a strike (ie, to stir up a heated discussion). The person who trolls is a troller, not a troll. Troll is what he or she does.

Hey, turns out Konky doesn't know everything, as "they" think they do....

It appears to me that your use of the word "trolls" is just an euphemism for someone who disagrees with your position.

Conchette - Many things within the Annex are done by dedicated volunteers. Why don't you just call the office and volunteer to update the website rather than complaining about it?

Troll or Troller?

We actually checked the word before we posted. Here's what we found in the dictionary:

"troll
noun

1 the action of trolling for fish. • a line or bait used in such fishing.

2 informal Computing an e-mail message or posting on the Internet intended to provoke an indignant response in the reader."

We were using the word as a noun to describe an act. Probably both uses are correct.

So maybe this time whoever you are referring to as "Konky" does know a thing or two after all.

"Dedicated Volunteer Website Fixer": Interesting thought. We might inquire about doing that. Do you think TAMPOA would trust us?

We think, however, that TAMPOA may need, if it doesn't already have one, a pretty much full time IT person who can also serve as their "webmaster." TAMPOA is a million dollar operation, not a mom and pop shop -- please understand we have nothing against mom and pop businesses. TAMPOA is just not one of those, and it should be run like the business it is, not like the corner grocery store.

Maybe a better idea is for us to publish the missing stuff here. At least so far this site is updated more frequently.

One thing that amazes me:
Conchette has probably done more good for Truman Annex's image than anyone else. If not for her blog I would think that the whole Truman Annex community didn't care about the rest of the island. But Conchette has shown that there are good people in Truman Annex - very good.
What amazes me are the residents that are trying to cut her down. They should realize that she is the only one doing any good for Truman Annex's image.

I think Kayo Dave needs to get out more if he honestly believes that!
